  1. Oh, that IS frustrating, Lon! A storage locker is a dangerous thing to have. That camera collection ate up quite a bit of $$ in storage fees over the years. Consider it a long-term project. Funny you should mention the Tele ......... I've been thinking of switching it out for a Strat lately. I don't play it much now. Fender has a new line of MIM guitars including a "Deluxe Stratocaster HSS" that has the features I'm looking for: whammy bar, bridge humbucker with an S-1 switch to split the coils, noiseless single coil PUs and a reasonable price that won't break the bank.
  2. They tell you what's in the box here. BTW, I was wrong about the Amazon price, it's actually a few dollars more than Hamilton, but still very cheap. https://www.amazon.com/Casablanca-Ultimate-Collectors-Humphrey-Bogart/dp/B001EL6EHC
  3. I envy you guys with room to collect guitars. I live in a condo and I barely have enough room for 3 in the corner of my guest bedroom. So, I don't consider myself a collector of guitars - just enough to provide different playing experiences. I have a MIM Telecaster, a Squier J Mascis Jazzmaster and a Parker PM-20 Pro (sort of a Les Paul style). I also have my old childhood Tele from the 60s, which would probably be worth something except that the body had been re-shaped when I bought it. It also needs significant other work.
  4. That Casablanca box looks interesting! It's about the same price on Amazon - seems like a great deal with all the extras. The Blu-ray box is much more, but I doubt the quality will be that much different.
  5. This is one that I come back to pretty frequently. Interesting collection and the way Orrin Keepnews arranged the tunes/artists is unusual, as well.
  6. Not sure if this qualifies as a "box", but: 3 Days of the Condor/ All the Presidents Men [Blu-ray] - $8.20, Amazon
  7. Don't remember seeing this topic before. I have my father's camera collection, which I have been selling off for a couple of years, so not in the "acquiring" mode right now. But I've decided to keep quite a few of the most interesting and valuable pieces for myself. In the process of researching and selling on ebay, I've learned quite a bit about vintage and antique photographic equipment and really appreciate the progression of technology over the past 150 years or so. I have pieces that span that entire timeline. Needless to say some of my favorite pieces are Leica and Zeiss models, but there are MANY others that are amazing, too.
  8. Wow - that seems very arcane. I've bought several signed albums online from artists' crowd-sourcing campaigns. Don't know where most of them came from, but I doubt they were all from California. I guess they were breaking the law, though! I'm gonna go with Sangry's thought: "... maybe Manfred Eicher hates surf music and is making a point." Thanks for the offer, Agggggggggggggggggggggg! He's gonna be at SFJAZZ next month, so maybe I'll just wait for that.
  9. I wonder why they won't ship to California?
  10. Kamasi Washington at SFJAZZ tomorrow night. Saw him last year in a club situation. Nice to see all the excitement generated by this artist, especially the younger generations.
  11. Thanks!
  12. I'm surprised the MTA doesn't have a page devoted to the new artwork.
  13. An especially good set considering the Jackie McLean dates included. The Sam Rivers set really IS good. I haven't listened to it enough myself.
  14. Surprised to catch this bit about the new 2nd Ave subway in the NYT. A Jazz Musician and His Celebrity Status George Braith, a jazz saxophonist, can usually travel through the city with little fuss or fanfare. On Sunday afternoon, however, he was surrounded by an eager pack of veritable paparazzi. There was good reason for Mr. Braith’s newfound celebrity: His likeness is featured in a mosaic at the 72nd Street station. “Would you look at that guy,” said Mr. Braith, 77, as dozens of onlookers snapped photos. “Pretty handsome fellow if you ask me.” In his mosaic, Mr. Braith, clad in a slick red blazer, is carrying his signature “Braithophone,” an alto and soprano saxophone mended together. Unsheathing the instrument from his suitcase, he obliged the crowd with a brief tune. “Are you famous?” a passer-by asked. “In the jazz world,” Mr. Braith responded. The man shook his head and said, “Well, you’re immortalized as far as I’m concerned.” Mr. Braith, of Staten Island, rarely rides the subway, but said he would be sure to visit the 72nd Street stop more often now. “I think it’s the greatest station in the world,” he said. “They’ve got me on the wall!”
  15. Thanks - ordered!
  16. Donald Byrd/Pepper Adams - disk #3
  17. FYI - I emailed Mosaic about the status of the 'backordered' Clifford Jordan set, and Scott responded: "We’ll know more about all of our back ordered items sometime in mid-January."
  18. Sam Rivers (big box), disk #1
  19. I just discovered Pentangle's "Finale" album - recorded during their 2008 reunion tour and released a couple of months ago. I don't think it's been mentioned here yet. What a great album - the performances by all of the original members AND the production quality. Here's a review from the "fruk" webzine: PENTANGLE – FINALE: AN EVENING WITH…
  20. Joe Henderson - The Milestone Years I keep forgetting how good this set it. Something great on every disk!
  21. MORE good reasons to go!
  22. Wait.............WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAT???? I won? No WAY! BTW, I PM'd you, GA.
  23. I think I prefer him as a sideman rather than a solo artist. I have the Mosaic box which is good, but not great. He was a perfect compliment to all those great BN front lines of the 60s-70s!
  24. Thanks, MAN!
