Don't know if they are that great, but I'd probably pick them up if they came out as a Conn, esp. if it fit on one CD. Eric

There is a good excuse to reissue this material.

Perhaps I could have phrased it differently and asked if people knew how this material stacked up against Solomon Ilori's African High Life and the Blakey material like Holiday for Skins (both of which I bought). There must be some kind of market for percussion-heavy material or they wouldn't keep releasing it. Also, MC has been going through the Imperial catalog recently, but he had better step it up if he wants to stay ahead of Lonehill et al.

Personally, I'm not overly enthusiastic about the Solomon Ilori album. I guess I find it more "interesting" than "enjoyable". Can't help you with an opinion on the Ukonu albums, though.

there must be a reason that kenny cox isnt on cd. maybe they lost the tapes or they dont think anyone will ever buy it-- besides you fine chaps of course

I thought it was going to be a Collector's Choice or whatever...

Multidirection is great; haven't heard the first one.

Haven't had "Collector's Choice" issues in about 20 years.

Clifford, do you know what the "CC" series was?

Edit to say: Understanding the various reissue series is more important than understanding music.

OTOH, do you know what the "whatever" series is? :)

Make some room after your COL-trane (or COR-ea or COT-trell) section in your cd rack. It looks like the Kenny COX two-fer is a "definite" for the 2007 Connoisseur series — says The Source in Connecticut.

This, of course, is still "unofficial" — at least until the bar codes come out.

:tup

Any word on Tyrone Washington for this next round of Conns?

No word that I've heard. The only two that have been given the go-ahead (as far as I know) are Andrew Hill's Change (with Sam Rivers), and Kenny Cox's Introducing-Multidirection. I'll be getting both for sure. That leaves four more titles ...

I'm just full of questions, Late. Will the Kenny Cox be one or two discs?? (I'm understanding both his albums will be released together.) Doesn't matter - I'll be getting it for sure, either way. But my pocketbook will prefer a single-disc version to say the least.

Glad to hear about Hill's "Change" seeing the light of day as a single-disc issue. I've got the Mosaic, but anytime there's more Hill out there for people to buy, it's a happy day.

I think people are going to be pretty impressed with this proposed Kenny Cox reissue. I've had the two Liberty vinyls for some years now and really like them. Very much 'out of' 60s Miles Davis in style.

Will that Frank Foster also include the 'Manhattan Fever'? (also a nice one very worthy of reissue).

What do people think are the chances of Bobby Hutcherson's Total Eclipse being released as an RVG or a Connoisseur in the future. It's one of the few 60's Blue Notes left that hasn't been reissued in the last couple of years.

Todd

Would have to be an RVG, since it's already been released domestically before (as a McMaster, if I remember correctly).

Would seem like pretty good odds it would eventually be reissued as an RVG. At least 50/50 odds within the next 3-5 years, I would think -- maybe even slightly better odds than that, perhaps.
