clifford_thornton Posted 9 hours ago Report Posted 9 hours ago Wasn’t expecting this unfortunate news. One of the absolute greats. https://www.theguardian.com/music/2025/oct/27/jack-dejohnette-versatile-jazz-drummer-miles-davis-fusion-dies-aged-83 Quote
John L Posted 8 hours ago Report Posted 8 hours ago This one really hurts. Jack Dejohnette was not only one of the greatest and most original drummers. He was a titan of jazz music in every aspect. Irreplaceable! 1 minute ago, JSngry said: Irreplaceable We posted at exactly the same time with exactly the same thought! Quote
T.D. Posted 8 hours ago Report Posted 8 hours ago +1 to all sentiments. Too sad to say anything else. Quote
Jason Bivins Posted 6 hours ago Report Posted 6 hours ago My favorite drummer. RIP, sir. And thank you for all the beauty and joy. Quote
ghost of miles Posted 6 hours ago Report Posted 6 hours ago Terrible news for the beginning of the week. I'd only recently pulled out the ECM Special Edition set for a re-listen. Quote
randyhersom Posted 6 hours ago Report Posted 6 hours ago Got to see him at Big Ears with the second generation of Coltrane and Garrison. I have known and respected his name for almost 50 years. Quote
Kevin Bresnahan Posted 6 hours ago Report Posted 6 hours ago This is a bummer. Such a great player. Subtlety at its finest. Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted 6 hours ago Report Posted 6 hours ago Absolutely one of the greats. 83 is too young — or at least a little younger than need be. RIP. Quote
Milestones Posted 5 hours ago Report Posted 5 hours ago I thought he would live forever. Jack was on so many great records with so many great artists. I liked a lot of his leader work, especially in the 70s and 80s. A giant and legend. R.I.P. Quote
Milestones Posted 2 hours ago Report Posted 2 hours ago Now playing "After the Rain" with just Jack (on piano) and Bill Frisell. It's great to hear some of those piano performances, especially on this beautiful tune. Jack is really front and center, with Frisell providing very soft and subtle background. Quote
GregK Posted 2 hours ago Report Posted 2 hours ago oh no, this is terrible news! I only got to see him once, with the Keith Jarrett and Gary Peacock trio. I remember how loud and powerful he sounded at times, but never overwhelming the piano. Quote
