Jack Dejohnette was not only one of the greatest and most original drummers.   He was a titan of jazz music in every aspect.  Irreplaceable!

Jack was on so many great records with so many great artists.  I liked a lot of his leader work, especially in the 70s and 80s.

Now playing "After the Rain" with just Jack (on piano) and Bill Frisell.  It's great to hear some of those piano performances, especially on this beautiful tune.  Jack is really front and center, with Frisell providing very soft and subtle background.

oh no, this is terrible news! I only got to see him once, with the Keith Jarrett and Gary Peacock trio. I remember how loud and powerful he sounded at times, but never overwhelming the piano.

He performed in so many different settings and formats, he was hard to categorize. Which made him that much more special.
