There've been quite a few Mosaic sets containing recordings made in 1960 and later. While Mosaic's direction, with some notable exceptions, currently seems pointed toward pre-1960s recordings, what potential (and realistic) post-1960 sets would you like to see Mosaic release?

Complete 1970's Max Roach Quartet with Billy Harper.

Would love to see this set. (Would it contain late 60's recordings as well?)

Bill Barron as a leader.

Bill Dixon as leader/producer for Savoy, or Savoy avant-garde in general.

Yes to both, particularly if the Barron set included Motivation, truly a hidden gem.

It does seem, however, that Mosaic is predominantly interested in mining swing-era recordings from the 30s and 40s—though there's nothing wrong with that. The Pharoah Sanders set would be a notable exception. The last Hank Mobley and recent Bobby Hutcherson sets would also be exceptions. The demand for post-1960 recordings—or is it label and/or contractual red tape—might realistically prevent box sets from this era being produced. Not entirely sure, but I'm always a little surprised when a new Mosaic of swing-era recordings is released. I don't mean to complain though—any new Mosaic is just cause for celebration.

I'm not aware of any which exist!

The Bill Barron is a no-brainer

Warne Marsh - anything! private tapes, full session recordings, unreleased live recordings. I'm sure there's an angle here in the vein of the recent Tristano set

New Orleans Modern Jazz - something along the lines of a full reissue of the 1976 Opus box set New Orleans Heritage - Jazz: 1956-1966 (which features Ellis Marsalis/American Jazz Quintette recordings along with some others) expanded with contemporaneous and relevant music. This is maybe a little outside the scope of what Mosaic does, but I think there's some great potential

Always thought Mosaic could do something more with some of the newer BN material a la the Don Pullen and Tony Williams Selects. I think a box of Jason Moran's BN sessions would be great. In that vein a box of Geri Allen's Minor Music dates, possibly incorporating the Somethin' Else/BN material as well, would be really strong.

I'd like to see a "complete label" set of Lionel Hampton's "Who's Who in Jazz" label from the 70s. Mingus did his last bass work for that label, but I seem to remember that the Hampton estate can be "Goodman-like" to deal with.

Amen to the Barron and the Bill Dixon-related Savoy albums. A George Russell set would be cool, too.

Though the music straddles 1960, I'd love to see a Jimmy Giuffre Verve set.

Anything by Mal Waldron.

If there's any unreleased tunes or alternates, an Ahmad Jamal on Impulse would be a nice set.

Revelation label sessions.

Yes!! That might actually be do-able, as Jonathan Horwich, who used to post here, has worked with Mosaic before.

Revelation Records

I'd buy it. This one seems do-able too.

The Barron wouldn't sell enough outside of our board.

Do you have data to support this assertion? Or is that just speculation?

Please advise.
