How do you find this out?

You click on your name to get to your profile page... In your case, it's 17 July 2003, what we consider second generation of posters

Unless a member was deleted and is no longer listed, you are actually #2 after Jim Alfredson.

First 10 users:

Jim Alfredson

JSngry

Jim Dye

Saint Vitus

maren

Peter Johnson

catesta

uli

Chuck Nessa

Philip

I'm pretty sure that Jim Dye & uli are no longer with us.

I'm #72. :)

I'm not sure, but I think catesta also passed away. I joined in December 2003 if I remember correctly, but I hardly post here anymore.

I am almost positive I read that Uli passed away on Facebook, but Facebook's search function sucks big time.

In 2002 or 2003, I joined AAJ.Ā  I remember when the Blue Note board guys joined AAJ en masse, but then left en masse to start up organissimo.Ā  I waited a few months before coming on board.Ā  August, 2003.

It's a little fuzzy now, but I seem to remember that the Blue Note board members who joined the AAJ forum when it closed, weren't warmly received there. I think that may even be why this forum became the landing spot for most of those posters. I was a long time member of both the forums and remained a member of the Jazz Corner forum until it closed.

March 8, 2003 I joined. I remember flailing about trying to find a new home after the BNB fell apart. . . and landing here to stay very happily for fifteen years or so.

Did Tom At Blue Note ever make the jump? Ā 2003 guy here.

I asked Tom Evered several times to join up here but he wasn't interested. People may not remember, but he got a lot of grief during his time on the Blue Note board. Some of it was warranted, some was totally uncalled for. I didn't blame him for not joining up as it probably would have just stirred up some people.

Tom passed away in August of 2024.

oh, huh, looks like I joined on January 9, 2004. I could have sworn it was earlier, but apparently the months/years run together. I do remember the BNBB shutdown and being informed that this was the place to go.

I have the opposite reaction.Ā  I thought I joined a lot later, but apparently it was Jan 30, 2004, so tail end of the second wave?Ā  I wasn't a member of BNBB, however...

I forgot about the transitional AAJ post-BN board. I had that experience as well, even though I was writing for them at the time. Not a great scene.

I think there was a strong sense of invasion of an established community which could certainly be discombobulating for people already there. But my own recollection is that Lon suggested coming here and that is what I did.

Re Uli, I read about it here

Joined in September 2003. While I have a good number of postings, I never considered myself a very active member here.

Really? I think of you as a core poster.

And yes, makes sense that an established community would bristle at an influx.Ā

I also joined in March, 2003. Ā  Some of us go back not only to the Blue Note Board and Jazz Corner, but to Jazz Central Station before that from the mid-1990s. Ā
