  1. I have a stupid question. Is this the same website/company that did the Weather Report crowdsourcing documentary years ago? I know it was either Kickstarter or Indiegogo I gave them like a few hundred bucks and never got anything and never heard back from my emails. Does anyone else remember this?
  2. In the 90s (I think) it was a label that put out a lot of good mainstream jazz. I have all their Mulgrew Miller releases, most of the Rene Marie. They also had Steven Wilson, Dena DeRose, and a few others. The label just seemed to disappear. In addition to their roster, the physical presentation of the CDs was very good.
  3. Yea, I kinda remember this now... I read the book a long time ago. This concept and theme cuts across a lot of music genres... unfortunately.
  4. I don't think I've ever seen this before... and I have a lot of Jackie Mac. What year is this? Missing Chick these days despite the Scientology stuff.
  5. What do you mean by "personal racial self-consciousness?" I think I understand but I want to make sure I'm not guessing wrong.
  6. This seems very confusing and odd. They are releasing 3 sets of LP's (and digital downloads). It's not clear to me if most of these are cuts from the previous releases. The third release says "The final volume of the 3-part series features brand new studio recordings, including a 7-part suite inspired by the band’s history." I'm taking that the first two are just "greatest hits" of the prior releases and not previously unreleased material. I've emailed them for clarification. If anyone's interested, if I hear back I'll post here. https://www.sfjazz.org/shop/music/sfjazz-collective-retrospective-vol1/ https://www.sfjazz.org/shop/music/sfjazz-collective-retrospective-vol2/ https://www.sfjazz.org/shop/music/sfjazz-collective-retrospective-vol3/
  7. I just use Itunes. If you are on a Mac the main thing is to change the options so that it burns to mp3 not the Apple format.
  8. Listening to her new release now... I've always been a big fan... This release is a little different in that she has a trumpet player and at least one song on vocals... I'm digging it...
  9. One track up on Bandcamp.... https://resonancerecordsjazz.bandcamp.com/album/les-mccann-never-a-dull-moment-live-from-coast-to-coast-1966-1967
  10. So the Resonance stuff hasn't been released before??? The way I read the press release it sounded like some of it had been released previously. If it has, but not in the Smoking at the Half Note Live... then where was it released? Is this all new? I'm so confused.
  11. Agree... Chick Corea's estate just put out a couple of things... a new 2CD set of his electric band and other cd... https://chickcorea.shop.musictoday.com/product/XTCDCC007/chick-corea-elektric-band-the-future-is-now-2cd?cp=null https://chickcorea.shop.musictoday.com/product/XTCDCC008/chick-corea-sardinia-cd?cp=null
  12. https://www.jazzmessengers.com/en/97961/cal-tjader/catch-the-groove This one I can get behind... Looking forward to it.
  13. I had NO idea Epic owned Bandcamp. Doesn't Microsoft own Epic? I don't know if this is good for jazz or bad.
  14. Odd in that 2 hours and 20 min could have easily made it a 2CD set. I wonder why they made it 3 instead. Based on the new info... I'm a little less enthusiastic than my first post... but maybe....
  15. From Instagram.... "LES McCANN on RESONANCE! One day before his 88th birthday, it brings me great joy to announce the upcoming Record Store Day Black Friday (November 25th) release of "Never A Dull Moment! - Live from Coast to Coast (1966-1967)" by the unsung piano and vocal icon Les McCann. This is a previously unissued collection of live recordings captured at the Penthouse jazz club in Seattle from January 27 and February 3 & 10, 1966 with Stan Gilbert, Paul Humphrey and Tony Bazley; and also includes recordings by Resonance Records founder and co-president George Klabin from the Village Vanguard on July 16, 1967 with Leroy Vinnegar and Frank Severino. This is an official release in cooperation with Les McCann, and the audio was transferred from the original tape reels and mastered for vinyl by the legendary Bernie Grundman at Bernie Grundman Mastering Studios and pressed at Le Vinylist in Quebec, Canada. The limited-edition 180-gram 3-LP edition (and deluxe 3-CD set) includes an extensive insert with rare photographs by Lee Tanner, Jean-Pierre Leloir, Christian Rose and others; two sets of liner notes — by music journalist A. Scott Galloway and author/historian Pat Thomas (Listen Whitey! The Sights and Sounds of Black Power 1965-1975), who both contributed to McCann's photography book Invitation to Openness: The Jazz & Soul Photography of Les McCann 1960-1980; plus quotes and statements from Roberta Flack, Quincy Jones, Monty Alexander, Bonnie Raitt, Roger Kellaway, Nathan East, Bobby Lyle, Emmet Cohen and others. I'd like to thank Les McCann and his longtime manager Alan Abrahams for the wonderful music and for working with me and our team to put this project together. Thanks, as always, to George Klabin for making this release possible (as both an executive producer and engineer!), and of course Michael Kurtz and Carrie Colliton at Record Store Day for their ongoing support. I'm grateful to once again work with Charlie Puzzo, Jr. and Jim Wilke on another Penthouse release, as well as Deborah Gordon from the Village Vanguard. #RSDBF #recordstoredayblackfriday #lesmccann #resonancerecords" What do you guys think?
  16. So I'm assuming this set doesn't include anything new, right?
  17. Just listened to Roadgame again.. Even though I have the Galaxy set ... there's still more than half of the material that's new... It's worth it to me... Can't wait!
  18. https://www.importcds.com/discover-who-i-am-blossom-dearie-in-london-the-fontana-years-1966-1-970/602448413222 Product Notes Blossom Dearie - "Discover Who I Am: Blossom Dearie In London (The Fontana Years: 1966-1970)" / Discover Who I Am: Blossom Dearie In London (The Fontana Years 1966-1970) comprehensively documents the recordings this venerated yet enigmatic and under-appreciated pianist and singer-songwriter (1924-2009) made in the English capital. Remastered at Abbey Road Studios from the original analog sources, this Deluxe 6 CD boxset includes 27 previously unheard tracks, an extensive biographical essay and unseen photos. Anybody got any more info than this?
  19. Dang... I was getting all excited cause I thought I didn't already have this.... but alas....😢
  20. I might have one or two of the previous releases and the Galaxy but I'm with you. It is worth it to have the entire thing in one coherent package (with hopefully improved sound). I'm in. Is this going to be released on Bandcamp?
  21. https://www.regattabarjazz.com/shows/ It closed around the pandemic. Looking forward to going to back.
  22. Long story short... - 98% of my 4,000 CDs are on Apple's iCloud servers. I only kept 20% of the CDs (Mosaic sets and other key choices) and Apple messed up and didn't copy/lost the other 2%. Every now and then I've downloaded parts of the collection but have never downloaded the entire thing because it takes forever. It's kinda locked me into using Apple's Music Service but I'm in their ecosystem anyway. If I had to do it all over again, I'd keep everything locally, backed up twice and I would upload nothing.
  23. Just purchased it on Itunes. I'm so happy that there have been several excellent releases of Mulgrew. The 3cd Roy Hargrove and Kenny Barron sets were fantastic (especially the Barron). Looking forward to listening to this one.
