I decided to go with the Amazon listing, because the eBay listing from the same seller says he has 5 copies, 1 sold. I have to assume he's offering the same stock to both outlets so I think pretty good chance I see it by next month. And, easier to get a refund from Amazon if I am wrong.
The lesser known leader thread is what prompted me to search for it and I enjoyed the Tomlinson disc. I've spun it twice and find his compositions and arrangements thoughtful and easy if that makes sense. For studying with Barry Harris, I didn't pick up on a heavy influence on his sound. Not sure how long the studying took place though.
The Charles Owens is a Joy. I picked it up in Atlanta at a record shop while killing some time. I had read a review, probably on AAJ and when I saw it in the wild picked it up. You will enjoy it indeed. And It does fit in with the Lesser known leader thread.
Larry's referring to the early 1960s, after Hank Mobley departed from the group.
EDIT: yikes. Your post, Larry, triggered a faint sign of recognition on my part, and I went back to the script for the "Miles Between" Night Lights show that we just re-aired this past week. I make reference in that post to Rollins briefly playing with Miles after returning from his sabbatical. I originally put the show together several years ago and will have to dig into my notes to see if I can find what source I used for that statement. If it proves to be inaccurate or unverifiable, I'll remove the reference.
