Very sad to hear of our friend brownie's passing. He was an invaluable resource for so many of us with this music, not to mention having photographed the new music and musicians in New York and Paris during the 1960s.

Oh man, *very* sorry and sad to hear this news. He was on the old Blue Note board as well, correct? Had some very nice exchanges with him over the years, and he was very helpful with a couple of early Night Lights episodes. Thanks for letting us know... he was much-liked around these parts.

Yeah, he was on the BNBB.

Brandon Burke did an interesting interview with him in Wax Poetics. That must’ve been about 20 years ago now.

It was a sad day when he stopped coming here; he was so knowledgeable yet so very polite.

As a Mingus fanatic who loves The Great Concert of Charles Mingus, I was amazed to interact with someone who was not only there but photographed the concert.

Very saddened to hear this ... and I had no idea he had such an illustrious career with the AP.

Guy was a great asset to the board and exceptionally generous as well - a couple of years ago I reached out to him because he had mentioned a rare Harry Edison CD with Curtis Peagler, and I had not had any luck even finding a copy anywhere. I hoped he would favor me with an upload of mp3 tracks and instead he simply shipped his copy to me and didn't even take payment for the mailing cost.

Brownie was a great man. Back when we did Blindfold Tests with CDRs, he would take on the task of getting the discs to members in countries where US mail might or might not arrived on time (or at all...). He never failed.

RIP and thank you for being that kind of a human. Large!

Very sorry to read this. I've been out of touch for a while, but he was most generous in sharing his knowledge, his photos, and in tracking down many great CDs for me in Paris' well-stocked second hand shops.

Very sad news. I know many of his photos of jazz greats; he was a close friend of Marion Brown in particular, and an active participant in this forum. R.I.P.  'brownie' ...
