clifford_thornton Posted October 30 Report Posted October 30 Very sad to hear of our friend brownie's passing. He was an invaluable resource for so many of us with this music, not to mention having photographed the new music and musicians in New York and Paris during the 1960s. https://apnews.com/article/guy-kopelowicz-france-obituary-3b0173beacfe8b6c40324ec2a80ffab1 Hopefully he and Marion Brown are sharing some cosmic ice cream. ghost of miles Posted October 30 Report Posted October 30 Oh man, *very* sorry and sad to hear this news. He was on the old Blue Note board as well, correct? Had some very nice exchanges with him over the years, and he was very helpful with a couple of early Night Lights episodes. Thanks for letting us know... he was much-liked around these parts. Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted October 30 Report Posted October 30 Gosh, he was such a great resource and source of positivity. He will be missed! Quote

That must’ve been about 20 years ago now. Quote
kh1958 Posted October 30 Report Posted October 30 It was a sad day when he stopped coming here; he was so knowledgeable yet so very polite. As a Mingus fanatic who loves The Great Concert of Charles Mingus, I was amazed to interact with someone who was not only there but photographed the concert. Quote
Dan Gould Posted October 30 Report Posted October 30 Very saddened to hear this ... and I had no idea he had such an illustrious career with the AP. Guy was a great asset to the board and exceptionally generous as well - a couple of years ago I reached out to him because he had mentioned a rare Harry Edison CD with Curtis Peagler, and I had not had any luck even finding a copy anywhere. I hoped he would favor me with an upload of mp3 tracks and instead he simply shipped his copy to me and didn't even take payment for the mailing cost. RIP. Quote
JSngry Posted October 30 Report Posted October 30 Brownie was a great man. Back when we did Blindfold Tests with CDRs, he would take on the task of getting the discs to members in countries where US mail might or might not arrived on time (or at all...). He never failed. RIP and thank you for being that kind of a human. Large! Quote
Kevin Bresnahan Posted October 30 Report Posted October 30 I always appreciated brownie's posts. He was such positive presence here. Quote
king ubu Posted October 30 Report Posted October 30 Very sorry to read this. I've been out of touch for a while, but he was most generous in sharing his knowledge, his photos, and in tracking down many great CDs for me in Paris' well-stocked second hand shops. Quote
optatio Posted October 30 Report Posted October 30 Very sad news. I know many of his photos of jazz greats; he was a close friend of Marion Brown in particular, and an active participant in this forum. R.I.P. 'brownie' ... Quote
mikeweil Posted October 30 Report Posted October 30 Very sad news. I once met him shortly during a stay in Paris. A very nice and knowledgeable man, who has seen the performances of practically everybody passing through the town. A loss for the jazz world. R.I.P. Quote
JSngry Posted October 30 Report Posted October 30 And apparently regarded equally highly as an AP photographer! Quote
Aggie87 Posted October 30 Report Posted October 30 Sorry to hear this, he was a great contributor to this board since it's inception. Rest in Peace, Brownie. Quote
romualdo Posted October 31 Report Posted October 31 RIP Guy (Brownie) - loved your input here over the years & especially your Ayler pics Quote
ejp626 Posted October 31 Report Posted October 31 Very sorry to hear this. 😟 I also had several positive interchanges with him. Quote
John L Posted October 31 Report Posted October 31 Very sad indeed. I loved having Brownie here. RIP in jazz heaven. Quote
J.A.W. Posted November 1 Report Posted November 1 Very sad news, sorry to hear this. A great guy, had personal contact with him a few times, but that was a long time ago. Quote
Jason Bivins Posted November 1 Report Posted November 1 Damn, this stinks. He was so kind, and graciously allowed me to use several photos of his for a book a while back. True stalwart. RIP. Quote
