  1. Goodness, that brings back memories - I was a subscriber for years and remember that issue. Should have saved it - maybe I did in my mountain of 80s/90s Downbeats ...
  2. Thanks Pim - my habit with Discogs has been to search for what I want with a US seller (to manage shipping), but never really aligned with a specific seller. Most of my Japanese Blue Note purchasing came 10+ years ago on eBay (the "Buy It Now" option). I took the approach you suggested - buy in bulk to manage shipping. So I will check out both these Discogs sellers - thank-you for the recommendation!
  3. Hey Pim - if you don't mind sharing, what is your source for Japanese vinyl? Thanks
  4. Consider me a jazz listener who is missing out. Would love to have a list of 10-15 titles to explore when you (or anyone who follows this thread) have a chance.
  5. That is cool! Yes I enjoy him as well. I like his style - knowledgeable but doesn't take himself too seriously.
  6. PM sent on Parlans
  7. I see Ed Cherry has a new one coming out on Posi-Tone, which can be pre-ordered at Bandcamp. The is a track currently available for purchase - “Ding Dong” from Understanding. Nice to hear somebody cover that one!
  8. Just picked this up ... 18 years later 🙃
  9. High of -4 on Thursday in Kansas City, with wind gusts in the 20s. A rather startling cold 🥶😀
  10. Question - is there any info on line-ups for this set? I saw the album in a store, but didn't see much on who was in the bands. Edit: OK I read above and saw the reference to the Strut site. Got it!
  11. The CDs and/or their web site tout improved mastering, with little explanation. Given their prior history, I am willing to be open minded, but this all seems a little sketchy.
  12. Thanks so much for that - I ended up reading much of the issue! Joe Sample giving Monk & Coltrane 2 & 1/2 stars ... 🤔 I have an eye out for Body Meta.
  13. Oh NBD, thought you might have had it handy. I would be curious if you or anyone has recommendations for the harmolodic material. I have/enjoy "Of Human Feelings" on vinyl, never seen it on CD.
  14. YES, always!
  15. Say Jim, since you have the issue handy, would you mind to post the Greg Tate article? 😊. Half, kidding, I am guessing it is in one of his reader books. Back to Ornette, I love “Of Human Feelings” which I have never seen on CD. Any other favorite harmolodic albums?
  16. Yes this is fantastic. Maybe the Bud I reach for most often. Sound quality of the “who cares” variety. Just a joy to listen to.
  17. Wow - continue to re-visit the live set. Not a huge fan of the studio material from this era, but this thing smokes. The group is very tight and must have been a blast to see live. Not at all poppy or "locked in the 80s". Definitely genre-hopping, kind of this very taut, very in your face funk/blues/jazz/rock mix. Not nearly as dense as his mid-70s bands, but I see much more of a linear connection to those bands than the contemporaneous studio bands convey.
  18. Same here.
  19. Thanks for the update Jim!
  20. Same here. I embrace most places with the funk/fusion thing going on, but this sounds pretty stale.
  21. Thank-you - never seen that one before - picked it up for $4.00 at discogs!
  22. Thanks Rick - just donated/ordered.
