Looks like one of the Freddie Hubbard/Woody Shaw CDs is being issued at the same time: http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=TOCJ-95019

I'm afraid not. Bluesoul omitted the second sentence in the paragraph: The bonus tracks here essentially make up an entire second album, capturing eight songs recorded earlier in 1961 at the Cellar, a club in Vancouver, British Columbia. This Canadian set — originally issued on Fantasy as The Montgomery Brothers in Canada, includes Buddy Montgomery on vibes, Monk Montgomery on bass, and Paul Humphrey on drums. is this a boot of the Fresh Sound CD?

Woody Shaw - Complete Muse Recordings on Mosaic
Eric replied to J.A.W.'s topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Received my copy today, will have a chance to listen later. I did spend some time with the booklet. A few comments - first, they have gone back to their "original" booklet production, i.e. in contrast to say the recent Mingus set (which had a relatively slick cover). Not sure I have described this well, but if you have the Mingus set you know what I am talking about. Second, skimming the notes (which are primarily written by Woody III), they seem pretty comprehensive, both in terms of describing the music and describing the man. Both Billy Harper and Anthony Braxton have written portions of the notes - the ones from Braxton are particularly enlightening/entertaining. -
some discussion here: I have Family Affair and Brother Rap from compilation CDs they are not bad, definitely a funk vibe, not much in the way of solos Hutcherson meets early Kool & the Gang meets lost blaxploitation soundtrack

was always wondering about that ...

Agree with Sidewinder. I enjoy this one quite a bit - much more than I would have thought. It has been in regular rotation since the Japanese CD came out earlier this year. Of the same general vibe as the Mosaic Select a while back. Perhaps a tad more "commercial" - a few wordless vocals, a little electric guitar, but neither of these are distracting and fit well into the overall vibe. Part of it reminds me of the more fusion-y aspects of the San Francisco lp - but I like this better.

I have one, although it is the previous version of the 4HD. Bought it ~ 3 years ago. Unlike the current 4HD, my device has 2TB of storage. Configuration-wise, I think it most resembles the current 6HD. So with the 5HD, you will require some sort of NAS (as it has no internal storage). Apologies if you figured all this out. Lot's of things to say about them - would be happy to discuss over the phone - PM me if you like. Virtues - the music sounds great, which is really the most important thing. Vices - the O/S takes a little getting used to, although in the current 5HD, the O/S has been completely re-done. The biggest complaint of the Olives is that once the music is stored on your Olive, it cannot be ported easily to another system. In the NAS-based world of the 5HD (or companion 4HD), that should not be a problem. 99% of the time I control it with my iphone or ipad. Might be worth checking out their new product the One.

Woody Shaw - Complete Muse Recordings on Mosaic
Eric replied to J.A.W.'s topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
That is a fairly long list, although a dream Mosaic for me would be the Muse recordings of Bill Hardman, Junior Cook and Mickey Tucker. Most dates feature one of the other players. Very little of this has been on CD. Ricky Ford has 8-9 Muse lps, a couple of which made it to lp (as well as a sampler). A little hit or miss for me. James Spaulding also has a nice run, although most of them made it to CD. A second (or maybe a sixth) for the Bill Barron lps. -
Well, eight years on, I have yet to see the damn thing, but did find an alternate cover - from the French Epic pressing, apparently:

John Coltrane The Complete Sun Ship Sessions Mosaic 3 LP set
Eric replied to miles65's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
yeah ... given the price differential with the CDs and the nature of this materials - breakdowns, false starts, etc., I can't see why the lps would interest anyone ... -
Given there are multiple cuts of many of the tracks, I once compiled a CD consisting of one take of each of those tracks. Who knows if they were the "best" example of each track, but it made for fun listening.

Absolutely love this album -
Freakin' treat indeed!! Had a beat-up lp forever and never listened to it, but have come back to the CD numerous times since I bought it. I'd say it is relatively close in feel to the stuff on the Hutch Select from a few years ago, maybe not quite as much "that kind of record" as you might think . There are some incidental vocals that float in and out but they fit just fine. Seventies vibe all the way

I have been dealing with them since day 1, bought the Monk Blue Note right after it came out. Never had an issue with them over maybe 50-60 boxes/selects. The few times I have reached out to them, they have exceeded expectations, as reported by others above.

Now this seems a little odd ... Dusty Groove has just released three out the four titles on their own label: http://www.dustygroove.com/item.php?id=w3qfjvrcwh&ref=browse.php&refQ=kwfilter%3Ddusty%2Bgroove%26amp%3Bincl_oos%3D1%26amp%3Bincl_cs%3D1 http://www.dustygroove.com/item.php?id=fnsd6ydcdg&ref=browse.php&refQ=kwfilter%3Ddusty%2Bgroove%26amp%3Bincl_oos%3D1%26amp%3Bincl_cs%3D1 http://www.dustygroove.com/item.php?id=rrk6n9hx49&ref=browse.php&refQ=kwfilter%3Ddusty%2Bgroove%26amp%3Bincl_oos%3D1%26amp%3Bincl_cs%3D1
