OMG I'm shocked - he was a vital force in keeping the Blue Note label (and many others) alive - whenever I see those twofer BN LPs from the 70s I think of him

I have a number of letters from him sent throughout the 90s, pre email days

RIP Michael

He effectively curated my whole jazz listening life, apart from the UK stuff. Right from the time I saw those brown bag twofers put out with Charlie Lourie in the little provincial shop window - as if from Mars. Huge and grateful thanks to him for this gift.

He was more than a good steward of the music, but he was certainly that. I know my life as a listener would be - and likely will be - very different without him. Thank you, Mr. Cuscuna, and sincere condolences to your loved ones.

Oh my, this is dreadful news. So very, very sad to hear this. From the first Monk set on, I feel like much of my jazz listening life has consisted of following in his wake as he birthed beautiful album after beautiful album, set after set, opening me up to so much wonderful music. I will be forever in his debt.
